The Rev. Sunny Hallanan

The Rev. Sunny Hallanan has been rector of All Saints’ Waterloo, Belgium since 2012. Sunny is prayerfully helping to lead All Saints’ through the challenges of declining American and British numbers in the area population in the increasingly secular society of Belgium. All Saints’ is now well established as an inclusive church which commits to welcome all persons of all genders and persuasions, ages and nationalities.

Sunny volunteers at various ecumenical organizations. She is passionate about Middle East peace and non-violent action. For the Convocation of Churches in Europe, she is on the Committee On Mission Congregations, the Convocation Task Force on Canon Revision, and a Deputy to the Episcopal General Convention.

Sunny is also the priest-in-charge (by various titles) of three missions associated with All Saints’: Christ Church, Charleroi, l’Église du Saint-Esprit, Mons, and Saint-Servais, near Namur. She is also the team leader of the new mission, St Nino Church, in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Sunny came to Belgium from St James’ Collegeville, Pennsylvania (near Philadelphia). While rector there, she was President of the Clergy Association of Pennsylvania, Convener of the Diocesan Middle East Study Group, Dean of the Valley Forge Deanery, an evangelism & liturgy consultant, and active in several interfaith groups.

Previously, she was at St Thomas’ Rochester, New York; Youth Coordinator of the Diocese of Massachusetts; and assistant to the Chaplain at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Sunny lives in the church apartment with her three cats, and appreciates that the Waterloo battlefield is in our back-yard, so she can run there. She did most of her studies at Cornell University and Yale University. From a large family, she is the single parent of Julia (a Colgate graduate now a Chicago Firefighter) and Payne (a St Olaf College grad now a dairy farmer in Pennsylvania).
